He's looking out of the window again. He's been doing it a lot, I think. People turn to him from time to time.
Natural, the kid is alone in the night train. Not the best place for a child, I can assure you.
Purses here are guarded like diamonds, and you might catch the glare of a knife between skirts' folds, or jackets' inner pockets, nothing like the dark, cotton coat I'm wearing now.

In the desert of dark and ice, there's always a girl walking around. Her coat billows behind her, her sleeves are too long, so she holds them up, fists closed around them.
That night, she was sitting down on a stone of diamond. She stared down, at her glass of icy cold water. A few stars were twinkling in the sky.
And then...
The ghosts start to walk on the desert. Soft, transparent figures, glowing under the stars. Black sand rearranges itself, and the girl looks up. Her eyes are dark, and ugly.
